The Cuckoo’s Calling by Robert Gailbraith (JK Rowling)

The famous Harry Potter novelist is back. And back with a bang. A Pseudonym to relieve herself of all the pressure on her, seems to have done the trick for Rowling. In her latest novel which is a murder mystery, she seems to have rediscovered the magic she seemed to have lost after the Potter series, in her slack, disappointing adult fiction, The Casual Vacancy.

Andrew NgMachine learning sounds scary - but when it's taught by Andrew Ng (of Stanford) on Coursera, it's not. Andrew does an excellent job of explaining Machine Learning in a way that's easy to understand. He focuses on the key concepts that really matter, avoiding the dangerous territory of unnecessary explanations.

The Compass Box Killer by Piyush Jha

The author had me from the start. Ever since I had read the title, I kept wondering about why anybody would leave a compass box after killing people, the idea sounded pretty insane. However, as the story unfolded, it became clearer and clearer. At the end I was left dumbstruck by the sheer ingenuity of the concept.

Detroit: We are coming

On Thursday, America's famed Motor City Detroit, filed for bankruptcy protection. A glance at how this famed city worsened would tell you the reason for the condition today.
The reason being "the city's undisciplined spending".

What if I told you the city's decision to enter bankruptcy proceedings is a sign of things to come for us?
Detroit witnessed blatant corruption in the past decade, coupled by a loss of 38 crore dollars in the yearly budget

Coursera - Introduction To Improvisation by Gary Burton

Jake Beamish
Jake Beamish

Jake is an amateur musician and bass player living in the Midlands, UK, with experience in teaching and function gigging. He has studied an Application Diploma in Musicianship at Leicester College. He is also interested in the future of the music industries and writes about it (and other things) on his blog at http://jakebeamish.co.uk.

I signed up to the Coursera course 'Introduction to Improvisation' after seeing a friend's recommendation on twitter. The course instructor was the acclaimed jazz vibes player Gary Burton, who is also a lecturer at Berklee College of Music. I had imagined the syllabus to cover conceptual ideas about jazz improvisations; explaining phrasing and story-telling perhaps - but in fact the course was solidly based in music theory. Most of the guidelines Gary delivered over the weekly video lectures were simple, and applicable in a live playing situation; offering an insight into the almost instantaneous thought processes that Gary and other very experienced jazz men employ when playing solo.

The Autobiography Of Rs. 500 Note

The Whitescape
The Whitescape

The Whitescape always loved writing and that’s the primary reason for the existence of her blog. She has shaped her world and the blog according the developments in the vagaries of her own life. She is obsessed about movies. Appreciation for her writings gives her a better high than vodka. She dreams to give away autographed copies of her authored books to her fans. She can be contacted via her Facebook page too.

I was born a five hundred rupee note at the Currency Note Press at Nasik on October 2, 2000. I was not always like you see me now, all laminated. Lamination has kind of immortalised me for a bit, but the things with the immortality is that it comes with a price. The price being, my loss of, freedom. Sure, many people come, see me on my owner’s table and enquire about me. It is wonderful narrating my story, I love the attention, but there are days that I rancour my immortality which has been purchased at the price of life itself. Every inch of my laminated body itches to feel the touch of the breeze, get soaked in the rain, feel the affection of the human touch.

“Yes Andy, he is a class player and just too good to be ignored. He might make it to the game against Tottenham in a week and the fans want him back too. Those posters there confirm that.”
